What happens if a package needs a signature and no one is home UPS?
If you're unavailable when UPS attempts delivery at your address, UPS may deliver your package to a UPS Access Point® location near your home, where your package will be held for you to pick up for 7 calendar days. After 7 calendar days, your package will be returned to the sender as undeliverable.
If you can't presign or want a safer alternative, you can tell UPS to leave the package at your nearest UPS Store or Access Point location, such as CVS or Michaels. Simply go to your package's tracking page and look for the "Change Delivery" button.
To receive your shipment on the first delivery attempt, track the shipment and leave a note for the driver on the scheduled delivery day. The note can instruct the driver to either leave the shipment, or, if a signature is required, deliver it to a nearby neighbour who is home during the day.
UPS will make three attempts to deliver your package on three separate business days. In most cases, you must be present and provide a signature to receive your package. If you can't sign for your package on any of those days, they'll typically hold your package at a nearby UPS facility for 3-5 business days.
If the shipment requires a direct or adult signature, then someone must be available to sign in person. If someone is not home to sign for a direct or adult signature, the courier will leave a door tag or reattempt delivery.
You must go to the Manage My Signature box and select the Opt-out of Electronic Signature option to deactivate your USPS eSOL.
Generally, FedEx requires a signature on all deliveries. However, we may be able to leave your package without a signature on the following conditions: - Have a suitable secure location to leave your package. - Your signature on the delivery attempt notice.
Shipments that do not require a signature can be left in a safe place, out of sight and out of weather, at the driver's discretion. This could include the front porch, side door, back porch, garage area, or with a neighbor or leasing office (which would be noted in a yellow UPS InfoNotice® left by the driver).
USPS won't drop off the package until a signature is obtained. Once the package is delivered, USPS relays the delivery confirmation to the shipper. This information includes the date, time, and location of delivery. Packages that aren't signed for are returned to the local delivery hub.
UPS Adult Signature Required
You are required to use this service if your UPS shipment contains age-restricted content, such as alcohol or firearms. In this case, the driver will obtain the signature (or electronic acknowledgement) of an adult recipient (at least 21 years of age) to deliver the package.
How many times will UPS attempt?
We are unable to provide two delivery attempts on the same day. Your driver may make a second attempt on the next business day and a third attempt on the following business day, if necessary. Where available, your shipment may be taken to your nearest UPS Access Point location™ for collection.
If the shipment doesn't require a signature, our driver will try and find a safe place to leave the shipment to keep it out of plain sight or harmful weather.

UPS may make up to three delivery attempts at its discretion at your address on regular UPS delivery days. After the final attempt, undeliverable packages will be returned to the sender.
The delivery person can't leave Certified Mail without a signature. If no one is home to receive it, the postal worker will leave a note that a delivery attempt was made. USPS only makes one delivery attempt. After that, the carrier returns the letter or package to the nearest post office.
Once your UPS claim with supporting documentation has been issued, processing takes on average 8-15 business days.
